Ya this is zen

okay so round two of hot steamy yoga...and i'm addicted.

I heart yoga. I don't know if the crap about detoxifying my body is true or not, but either way, the streching and sweating and pulling and pushing is awesome. And it sorta does relax my brain...i'm no zen clarity kid yet, but definitely enjoy the "high" of working out hard, especially cause i can't run right now since my ankle is giving me problems.

I'm not letting the ankle get me down though, don't worry! I'm running a half marathon in April and will be back on the training circuit next monday. I have every workout planned out until the race...oh yes i will kick some arse.

In other news....Thomas and I are probably going to Disney World...stoked. actually that's an understatement...i'm coming unglued with excitment.

Anyone else notice how glaringly incorrect my grammar is in this post. I mean run on sentences and awkwardness runs rampant. I'll chalk it up to the excitement. My little hampster is running full bore right now and is giving no thought to grammar or style. Please excuse.

Is this really zen-like?

So i started yoga. Andi got my arse kicked by yoga.

bikram yoga. You basically stand in a 101 degree room and contort your body in awkward positions for 90 minutes.

I'm awesome at athletics. I can run and jump and play with the best of them (unless it's volleyball, then i look like the fat kid in gym class). Yoga, however, eludes me. I mean i can run 6:45 miles. I can run half marathons up giant trails, my body fat is 16.5% and dropping, my lean body mass is 110 lbs, but hot sweat rooms where i gotta put my leg above my head kills me.

But i will not be bested. I've signed up for a month of unlimited classes (at a cool $100) and i'm dedicated to going at least 3 times a week. I'm hoping I can get it down so i can maybe sorta do yoga while in africa....we'll see.

Thomas used to teach yoga, but he doesn't like bikram. It's too hot he says. And he likes the relaxing yoga where you do guided imagery. This yoga is not relaxing at all. WEll maybe it is cause you're so damn tired at the end you can't help but relax... This yoga is brutal...i actually got in trouble for trying to get a quick drink when it wasn't a designated water period. I didn't even know there were designated times.

I'm such a noob.

Down with the Olympics!!

"Steven Spielberg has decided not to participate in the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing as an artistic adviser, citing the lack of progress in ending the genocide in Darfur." That's the news on Variety's website today (http://www.variety.com/VR1117980808.html).

Speilberg said: "I have made repeated efforts to encourage the Chinese government to use its unique influence to bring safety and stability to the Darfur region of Sudan," Spielberg wrote. "Although some progress has been made ...the situation continues to worsen and the violence continues to accelerate."
"With this in mind, I find that my conscience will not allow me to continue with business as usual," he added. "At this point, my time and energy must be spent not on Olympic ceremonies, but on doing all I can to help bring an end to the unspeakable crimes against humanity that will continue to be committed in Darfur."

Bout frickin time. I too, Mr. Spielberg, am boycotting these olympics.

China is saying that we shouldn't "politicize the olympics." BS. The olympics have always been political (Berlin anyone????) . Anyway, China needs to clean up it's human rights, it's foreign policy and its air quality. I wouldn't want to be competing outside in Beijing!

Hooray for Steven, now maybe this issue will get some press. For those that don't know, "China is Sudan's largest trading partner and the main foreign investor in Sudan's oil industry. Although most Western oil companies have withdrawn from Sudan under pressure from human rights organizations, Chinese companies have turned a blind eye to the brutal way in which Sudan forced 200,000 to 300,000 of its citizens from oil-rich lands without compensation. Nor have these companies shown concern that Sudan uses oil revenue to purchase arms for its wars against its black African population."

In addition, check out this website http://www.rsf.org/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=174 which talks about how Chinese oppression in media/internet. "Around 30 journalists and 50 Internet users are currently detained in China. Some of them since the 1980s."

And finally, China backs the military junta in Burma. They protect the regime from the UN and, although they do great things in Burma...build roads etc., they allow the military regime to run amok oppressing basic rights and killing monks. Okay that last part is simplifying a very complex issue, but it's pretty ugly all the same.

Thomas thinks i'm being unfair to the athletes...maybe i am, but i'm not watching. And the athletes would be real champions/heroes if they refused to play.

Falling off the wagon

So i haven't had ANY peanut butter since september. I know. Amazing isn't it? I quit the stuff cause every time I bought it i'd eat the whole jar in like a week. I couldn't help myself.

However, against Thomas' warnings, I bought peanut butter yesterday at Trader Joes (i only eat trader joe's pb now...none of that silly processed stuff). I stirred the jar yesterady night and only had a finger taste...i did ok. But in about 2 hours i'm gonna have a pbj sandwich for lunch...let's hope i don't fall of the wagon and just start eating it outta the jar again.

Damn you peanutbutter. Damn you and your tasty goodness.

...counting down the minutes til lunch.....

PS when i move to Mali you can send me peanut butter. All the peanut butter you want. Apparently protein is a scarcity around there, so i'll actually be able to eat it guilt free...what with the fact i'll be eating rice and that's about it for 2 years. LOL!

MCDREAMY LOST 12 POUNDS!

Yes, that was the title of the OK magazine that Thomas picked up while we were in line at the grocery store today. Seriously???? I love me some McDreamy, but why in name of all that is holy would i care that he lost 12 pounds. Maybe if he gained 400 i might be interested. And even then, not enough to open the magazine. But lost 12 pounds???????? Come on, I know guys that lose 12 pounds in one trip to the bathroom.

Not to mention the minute by minute coverage of britany spears. Give me a break, could someone please give me news? I'm not even kidding, I saw a show last night (and by saw i mean had the misfortune of stopping on it for all of 30 seconds) that actually documented her ordeal minute by minute. Can i please get a minute by minute documentation of something that matters? Like say...congress' day, the genocide in Darfur, the Chinese involvement (by way of arms sales) in several genocides (including Burma). Please, could we get minute by minute on something that is meaningful?

Grr. It just makes me mad because it shows me that the vast majority of people are more concerned with fake hollywood stars than life and death matters of poverty, oppression, war, and the environment. It does a lot of damage to my glass half full mentality. I like to think people are good, but this just makes me sad. Sigh.

On the subject of China...I'm boycotting the olympics and so should you. I won't be watching them. I'd also like to boycott chinese products, but i'm pretty sure that's next to impossible. But i'm trying anyway.

Maybe i'll post it up about that tomorrow.
